We Will Not Surrender

More than 20,000 people gathered in Istanbul against Erdogan and his reactionary policies

 

Haziran Organisation had called for a protest meeting in Istanbul at Kartal Square on November 20. Many leftist parties, organisations and trade unions including DISK and KESK, and the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) participated in the protest.  Republican People’s Party (CHP) had previously said that they would participate but pulled back at the last moment.

 

The main theme of the protest meeting was “We will not surrender”. The demonstrators chanted different slogans against Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) and in defence of secularism and civil rights. One of the interesting slogans was “ISIS is Murderer, AKP its Collaborator”. The demonstrators also chanted “this is only the beginning, our struggle will continue.”

 

Participants in the meeting also carried banners against the bill proposed by the Erdogan’s AKP, according to which child abusers who marry their victims will be paroled (the bill is known as child abusers’ parole bill among the people) and chanted  slogans against the bill.
