With the persistence of Khamenei and the Islamic Republic in their terrorist policies in the region, uranium enrichment, missile programmes and war-mongering, on the morning of Saturday 28 February the US and Israeli armed forces began a widespread military attack against the Islamic Republic. In a joint operation, the US and Israel have launched extensive attacks on centres and headquarters of the Islamic Republic’s forces in Tehran, Qom, Tabriz, Isfahan, Karaj, Lorestan, Kermanshah and other cities. In Tehran, among the targets were Khamenei’s office and several ministries, as well as political and military officials of the regime. Reports indicate the killing of Amir Hatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic’s army, Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and a number of other senior officials and commanders of the regime. In response to these attacks, the Islamic Republic has launched missile strikes against sites in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain.
The policies of the Islamic Republic are the cause of this situation. To put an end to the war, insecurity and the 47 years of suffering imposed on the people, the Islamic Republic must be brought down — and this is the task of the revolutionary people. The people want neither nuclear enrichment, nor the Islamic Republic’s missile policies, nor its proxy forces; with the overthrow of the Islamic Republic these policies too will come to an end.
A highly dynamic situation has begun in Iran, and regardless of the objectives of the US and Israeli governments, these blows place the Islamic Republic in a fragile position and may create conditions for a popular assault on the regime. The toppling of the regime is the work of the revolutionary people. People want welfare, freedom and a humane society, and achieving this depends on their readiness for a final offensive against the Islamic Republic.
People are pleased at the killing of officials and at the very fact of military attacks against the Islamic Republic, expressing their joy by sounding car horns, chanting slogans, dancing and in other ways. This atmosphere must be encouraged. The regime has announced the closure of schools and universities, and government offices have been partially shut down. In such circumstances, students, teachers and pupils, workers in production and service centres and office employees can stop work and launch a political strike, preparing themselves for further blows to the government. Under conditions of bombardment and military attacks, people must take care to avoid any gathering or action that endangers their safety. In all circumstances the atmosphere of protest must be maintained. Mutual aid and solidarity must be expanded as much as possible, and wherever feasible control of neighbourhoods and cities must be taken into people’s hands. In these conditions it is particularly important to place at the forefront, with full force, the effort to free political prisoners and those arrested in the recent protests.
As a result of the military attacks, it is possible that the situation will quickly unravel, that the regime will lose control over society and that its capacity for repression will be severely reduced. We must prepare for such conditions in order to use any opportunity that arises for advancing against the regime and shaping broad and powerful mass protests.
The Worker-communist Party firmly condemns any attack that harms the lives and property of the people. The party declares that the goal in all circumstances is the overthrow of the Islamic Republic, and calls on all activists and organisers of protests and movements, students and revolutionary youth to prepare themselves to organise the people, organise mutual aid, take control of neighbourhoods, cities and workplaces and services, and organise protests whenever and wherever conditions allow. The Islamic Republic must be overthrown, and this is the task of a united and organised people.
