Worker-communist Party of Iran Statement, 12 August 2022
Salman Rushdie, the author of The Satanic Verses, has been stabbed on stage at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York just before he was due to give a speech. The attack has left Mr Rushdie severely injured, and he is currently on a ventilator. The Worker-communist Party of Iran strongly condemns the attack on Salman Rushdie and wishes him well.
The assailant has been arrested and identified as 24-year-old Hadi Matar. No further information about him has been released at this stage. However, whatever the information that will emerge later, the responsibility for this attack lies with the Islamic regime of Iran. Over thirty years ago, Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Republic, issued a fatwa for the murder of Salman Rushdie. Since then, various other leaders and officials of the regime have repeatedly called for his killing and set a several-million-dollar reward for his murder.
This vicious attack once again highlights the importance of fighting political Islam, and specifically the Islamic regime of Iran. The Islamic Republic, as a murderous and criminal regime, must be rejected and condemned by the whole world.
