We strongly condemn attacks on residential areas and vital infrastructure by both sides of the war

Over the past couple of days, several oil depots in Tehran were attacked by Israel and the United States and burned, causing severe pollution across the city. An oil depot in Karaj was also targeted. Water desalination facilities in Qeshm and Qom were attacked and destroyed as well. The Worker-communist Party strongly condemns these attacks, which directly harm the lives of ordinary people. Attacks on non-military targets, especially those that endanger civilians, are prohibited under international law and must be condemned and prevented.

At the same time, the Islamic Republic has not only targeted numerous residential buildings and non-military sites in Dubai, Manama — the capital of Bahrain — and particularly in Israel, but within Iran it has an even more criminal record. The Islamic Republic has turned the population into its human shields. It has stationed its military forces in many schools in densely populated urban areas and launches drones and missiles from schools and residential neighbourhoods, thereby turning them into military targets for the opposing side in the war. It has also taken virtually no measures to protect civilians under wartime conditions and has not even built a single public shelter in Tehran or other cities.

The Islamic Republic is both the cause of this war and a regime that places no value on human life. The people have no role in this war and must not be used as cannon fodder. The path to ending the war and its human suffering is the removal of the Islamic Republic. If the Islamic Republic had accepted the demands of Western governments regarding nuclear activities, missile programmes and support for Islamist terrorist groups in the region, the hostility, tensions and military threats that led to war would not have arisen. Anyone opposed to war must therefore place even greater emphasis on ending these policies and overthrowing the Islamic Republic. The Islamic Republic is the main cause of this war and must be brought down by the people’s revolution.
