Determined and united truck drivers expand their strike to 282 cities in Iran

On 3rd October 2018, the truck drivers’ strike in Iran expanded to 282 cities. The desperate authorities in the city of Arak removed the registration number of several trucks to intimidate the drivers but the striking workers refused to load goods.

The authorities have used different tactics including spreading rumours with regards to distribution of new tyres and announcing the end of the strike, but the drivers keep each other informed and expose this false information.

The drivers who keep in touch and converse in their groups via mobile apps, insist on continuing the strike until all of their demands are met.

The drivers are on strike in objection to their wages being below the poverty line, corruption and embezzlement in the transport system, corruption of transport police, very high commissions set by transport companies, very high prices of spare parts, corruption of agents in the industry and the extreme poverty that has been imposed on the drivers.

Despite the arrest of over 150 drivers and repressive measures by the authorities, the drivers who have gained the support of the public, stand united and determined until their demands are met.
