Iran: Directors unleash police on Haft Tapeh workers – 14 seasonal sugar cane workers arrested

On 24th December 2018, the Independent Workers’ Union of Iran reported that after an argument between a group of seasonal sugar cane workers of Haft Tapeh and its directors, two police cars entered the complex and assaulted and arrested 14 workers.

According to the report, seasonal and one-day contract workers have been registering for work but on 24th December, workers were refused renewal of their contracts which led to the argument.

The workers who tried to protect their jobs were attacked by the police and were taken to the police station.

One of the grievances of the Haft Tapeh workers over the past few months has been the cooperation of the Haft Tapeh directors with the government and armed forces against the workers.
