Retired workers and their representatives march towards Iranian Parliament

 

Today, 16th October 2018, retired workers and representatives from different cities in Iran protested in front of the office of Organisation of Programming and Budget in Tehran.

Representatives of retired workers from the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Khorasan, Azarbaijan, Ardabil, and Fars came to Tehran for the protest. Over 1000 people attended the demonstration.

The retried workers and the representatives held placards and chanted slogans. The demands and objections of the retired workers included:

  • No to embezzlements
  • No to discriminations
  • Lack of access to healthcare
  • No to wages below the poverty line
  • Free education for all children
  • Free healthcare for all
  • Immediate release of all imprisoned teachers

In their slogans, the retired workers highlighted their rejection of any kind of discrimination and inequality. After the assembly the retired workers marched towards the Iranian parliament and called on the rest of society to support them.

The gathering was called by the Union of Retirees and National Union of Retirees. The Coordination Council of Teachers’ Association supported the gathering and stated that in case the demands of the retired workers are not met, the organisation would do everything in its power to claim the violated rights of their retired colleagues.

The Free Union of Workers in Iran also supported the move by the Teachers’ Association and National Union of Retirees.
