The Islamic Republic of Iran have imprisoned three members of the Writers’ Association!

According to a statement issued by the Writers’ Association of Iran, on 26 September 2020, Reza Khandan (Mahabadi) and Baktash Abtin, two members of the Board of Directors of the Writers’ Association of Iran, and Keyvan Bajan, a former Board member, were transferred to Evin Prison to serve their sentences. Reza Khandan (Mahabadi) and Baktash Abtin have been each sentenced to six years and Keyvan Baghen to three years and six months in prison.

On the day, a group of poets, writers and members of the Writers’ Association gathered in front of Evin Prison to protest against the imprisonment of the writers.

As the criminal Islamic regime finds itself besieged by popular protests, it steps up repressive measures to survive. However, the government that is so disgraceful and detested, hit by strikes and protests on all sides, has no solution to overcome its deep crisis, neither will it be saved by any degree of repression, or number of arrests and executions.

Members of the Writers’ Association, imprisoned workers and teachers, women’s rights activists, student protest activists, protesters of November 2019 and December 2017, and all political and ideological prisoners must be released immediately and unconditionally.

The Worker-communist Party of Iran strongly condemns the imprisonment of three members of the Writers’ Association of Iran and calls on all the international progressive organisations, freedom loving authors, writers’ associations and political parties to condemn the Islamic Republic and demand immediate release of the imprisoned writers and all the political prisoners in Iran.

The international support for the people of Iran plays a crucial role in allowing them to put an end to the repressive and criminal Islamic Republic.
