Truck drivers’ strike reaches 300 cities in Iran

On 6th October 2018, the general strike of truck drivers in Iran reached 300 cities.

The striking truck drivers stated: “We stand strong…we don’t believe the empty promises of the authorities” and “We continue the strike until our demands are met.”

The drivers had a meeting with the authorities in Bushehr, a port city in Southern Iran, but the workers walked out of the meeting after hearing the same empty promises as months ago.

The truck drivers drive their empty trucks around the cities in convoy, flashing their lights and honking their horns to let people know that they are continuing their strike. The authorities managed to stop such a convoy in Majafabad in Isfahan province.

So far 238 striking drivers have been arrested. Despite the attempts by the authorities to end the strike, the drivers stand strong and insist on their legitimate demands.

The drivers have opened an account to raise money for their colleagues who are facing economical hardship,  so that those who are in urgent need of financial help are taken care of and to ensure that drivers are not forced to end the strike and give up on their demands due to economical pressure.
