It is with deep regret that we announce that today Faraz Azadi (Ghasem Karimi), member of the central committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran (WPI), someone who dedicated his whole life to the fight for freedom and equality for all, passed away after a fierce battle with cancer.

Faraz was a political prisoner in the 1980s in Iran. He worked in many cities, including in the South and in the provinces of Kurdistan and Azarbaijan, to introduce worker-communism and the Worker-communist Party to many people and circles. After several decades of struggle under the Islamic dictatorship in Iran, Faraz was forced into exile in Holland. He was a tireless activist in the workers’ and socialist movement. With the passing of Faraz, we have lost a human being who was much loved by his family, by workers’ networks and by his party comrades.

The life and struggle of Faraz is part of the brilliant history of the fight by communists in Iran for a free, equal and prosperous human society under the barbaric rule of the Islamic Republic.

We offer our deepest condolences to his partner and comrade Mahboubeh, his sons Pouya and Armin, to activists in the workers’ movement and to members and friends of WPI. The passing of Faraz is enormously sad for all those who knew him. He will forever live in our hearts and in the hearts of all those fighting for a better world.

In dear memory of Faraz!
