Bakery workers in South Khorasan, Iran, protest imposition of poverty

On 6th January 2019, bakery workers in Tabas, South Khorasan province, Iran, held an assembly to protest against poor living conditions and the imposition of poverty.

The workers say that they haven’t had any pay rise since 2014 and their wages are way below the official poverty line. The struggling workers say that day by day their ability to purchase essential goods and to make ends meet is declining.

The workers object to the way their pay is calculated; relating their pay to the price of bread and giving them collective contracts has forced them into poverty.
