Iran: Campaign for the Release of Esmaeil Bakhshi, Update 9 (Sunday 2nd December 2018):

Sepideh Gholiyan under severe interrogations and in solitary confinement

We have received reports that Sepideh Gholiyan, the citizen journalist who was arrested during the Haft Tapeh sugar cane workers’ strike (now in its 28th day), together with Esmaeil Bakhshi and a number of other workers, has been subjected to severe pressures. Sepideh has not been allowed visits from her family, and the authorities have refused to accept her suggested lawyer since the Islamic government in Iran only allows its own approved lawyers as legal representatives for political prisoners.

The repressive treatment of this young journalist is a clear case in point of outright torture and violence that is meted out against civil rights activists and journalists in Iran, which must be condemned by all international bodies.

The Campaign for the Release of Esmaeil Bakhshi strongly condemns these repressive actions of the Islamic Republic’s Intelligence Services and calls for the stepping up of international protests.
