Striking truck drivers in 310 cities in Iran pledge to free their 254 arrested colleagues

The truck drivers’ strike in Iran has reached 310 cities within two weeks. The striking workers are determined to claim their legitimate demands and to end repression, injustice and inequality.

The Islamic regime that failed to meet the demands of the truck drivers to end their poverty and unsafe and unfair working conditions, has deployed its judiciary and armed forced to fight the striking workers. In the past two weeks at least 254 drivers have been arrested.

In response to the arrests the drivers have pledged to continue the strike until all of their colleagues are freed and all of their demands are met.

The Islamic regime has also tried other tactics to break up the united truck drivers and to reduce the public’s support for the strike. They are spreading false information about the strike and are broadcasting staged footage of drivers supposedly at work on their media and online channels. The striking truck drivers are challenging this false information.

The truck drivers keep each other and the public informed about the progress and challenges of the strike: they hold assemblies in public spaces, drive in convoy with their trucks and keep sharing information and footage of their strike on their online channels.

On 6th October, the striking truck drivers in Najaf Abad in Isfahan province managed to push back armed forces who tried to stop their convoy.
