On 14th January 2019, unpaid municipality workers in the city of Abadan in Khuzestan province, Iran, blocked the entrance of the municipality building.
The workers who have held other assemblies in the courtyard of the municipality have been disappointed by the city’s deputy mayor who told them that due to financial issues there will be no payment until the end of the (Iranian) year.
The workers don’t accept the excuses and are determined to protest until all of their wages and bonuses are paid.
Non-payment of wages has pushed many workers and their families into poverty.
