Protesting teachers and retirees in Azerbaijan province, Iran, say no to “blatant crime” against retirees 

 

On 23rd December 2018, retirees and teachers in Tabriz in Azerbaijan province, Iran, held an assembly in front of the offices of the Ministry of Education.

The retirees and the teachers protest against the imposition of poverty, injustice, discrimination, embezzlement, the dire situation of schools, lack of free education, lack of free health care and insurance, and low wages.

The protesters emphasised the importance of unity of workers and teachers. “Worker, teacher, unite, unite”, was one of the main slogans in the protest.

They also objected to the arrests of striking sugar cane and steelworkers and declared their support for and solidarity with the workers.

The protesters strongly condemned the imposition of brutal poverty on hundreds of thousands of retirees calling it a “blatant crime” against them.

The retirees and the teachers showed determination in pursuing their demands.
