Shooting, smoke and fire in Evin prison

All political prisoners must be released!

Tonight, October 15, we are witnessing critical moments of the revolution to overthrow the Islamic Republic. The news indicates that there was a fire and possibly a revolt in Evin prison, Tehran. The regime’s security forces have been sent to Evin prison, and many families and people have gathered there. The security forces are shooting teargas at people. Ward 7 of Evin prison is reported to be on fire and sounds of gunshots and shouts of “Death to the dictator” can be heard from inside the prison. Ward 7 is the place where temporary prisoners are kept, i.e. those who have not yet been sentenced, most of whom are those who have been detained during the current protests.

The regime has closed the roads leading to the prison, so there is heavy traffic around the prison. In an emergency notice, the Youth of Tehran’s Neighbourhoods (an association of protesters on the streets) have asked the people, especially the residents near Evin prison, to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe by gathering around the prison. Families of prisoners and others are moving from different areas of Tehran towards the prison to save the lives of the prisoners. Around Evin, people are blocking the roads and fighting with the security forces. The regime has sent units of its Special Forces to the prison. Sounds of siren and shooting can be heard. Prisoners’ families have been trying to gather on the streets around the prison. In addition to the explosion in Ward 7, an explosion has been reported in Ward 4 of the prison.

Today was one of the fiercest days of the revolution. People had organised gatherings and demonstrations with large crowds in different parts of Tehran and different cities, as well as in universities. Tonight, in addition to the places we reported earlier, in the Nazi Abad and Saadat Abad districts in Tehran, like other nights, a large number of people demonstrated on the streets. Also, people in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Kish Island, Kermanshah, Yazd, Arak and Ahvaz were on the streets and chanted anti-government slogans. According to the reports received so far, today people gathered in more than 20 cities and fought battles with the security forces.

In the north-western cities of Ardabil and Tabriz, there have been fierce battles between the people and the security forces, and the regime’s helicopters have been flying over the airspace of these cities. People are fighting the regime’s forces tooth and nail and pushing them back. The morale of the regime’s forces is low.

Down with the Islamic Republic!

Long live the revolution!
